Washington, DC, March 6, 2024 – Former Romanian Chief of the Defense Staff, General (Ret.) Daniel Petrescu, has today joined the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA) as a member of its International Leadership Council (ILC).

A decorated soldier and leader with a career spanning over three decades, General Petrescu joins a distinguished group of thought leaders co-chaired by Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, former Minister of Defence of the Federal Republic of Germany, and H.R. McMaster, former US National Security Advisor and Lieutenant General (Ret.) in the United States Army.

CEPA’s President and CEO, Dr. Alina Polyakova, said: “It is an honor to welcome General Petrescu to CEPA’s high-level advisory group. Few are as keenly aware as General Petrescu, and few possess the strategic vision, to grasp the challenges facing the alliance in the Black Sea, a region that has been a core part of CEPA’s focus since our founding.”

General Petrescu said: “Joining CEPA’s International Leadership Council presents an invaluable opportunity to collaborate with a dedicated group of thought leaders and find solutions to the most critical challenges facing the transatlantic alliance.”

General Petrescu served as Chief of Defense Staff during the challenging times of pandemics and the start of the Russian aggression in Ukraine. He was previously Deputy Chief of the Defense Staff at the Romanian Ministry of Defense, Commander of NATO Headquarters Multinational Division South-East (HQ MND-SE) in Bucharest, Romania, and Commander of the Multinational Brigade South-East.

His professional experience includes prior appointments at tactical, operational, and strategic levels within the Romanian Armed Forces, NATO Headquarters, and in different theaters of operations worldwide, including Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Balkans.
