Washington DC, June 6, 2024 — The Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA) is expanding its presence in Europe with the launch of CEPA Europe in London and Brussels.

CEPA Europe will serve as an anchor to drive the institution’s work around its three strategic pillars of defense, democracy, and digital through high-level meetings and discussions, policy-driven research, and insightful analysis from expert voices.

This investment builds on the institution’s position as the bridge between American and European decision-makers and thought leaders.

Dr. Alina Polyakova, CEPA’s President and CEO, said, “Almost 20 years ago, CEPA was founded with a prescient strategic vision that the greatest challenge to transatlantic security would emerge in Central and Eastern Europe. As Russia’s brutal aggression against Ukraine has made abundantly clear, Europe and the United States will not be secure as long as Ukraine is not secure. This vision continues to drive our mission to cement Central and Eastern Europe as an anchor in the international security order, and our investment in Brussels and London speaks to that long-standing commitment.”

CEPA’s Democratic Resilience program leads the institution’s work on countering authoritarian threats from Russia and China and providing a space for Ukrainian and independent Russian voices to chart a democratic and prosperous future for both countries. The program, led by Dr. Sam Greene, will anchor CEPA’s presence in London, focusing on how to ensure the success of Europe’s democracies.

The Digital Innovation program brings a security lens to transatlantic tech policy as the rules and regulations of today shape the technology of tomorrow. As the anchor of CEPA’s presence in Brussels, spearheaded by Bill Echikson, the program will bring global policy and business leaders together as the European Union and the United States work to build a democratic digital domain.

Finally, the Transatlantic Defense and Security program will drive the next chapter of CEPA’s nearly 20-year history of leading expertise on NATO’s Northern and Eastern flanks from both London and Brussels — a chapter that must also guarantee the United States and Europe maintain the innovation edge on defense technology.

Dr. Polyakova stated, “CEPA’s mission to ensure a strong and democratic transatlantic alliance for future generations has never had greater importance than today. As policymakers on both sides of the Atlantic navigate increasingly uncertain times, CEPA Europe will bolster the transatlantic alliance’s ability to turn vision into action.”
