Europe’s lack of a sustainable and independent energy framework not only poses significant economic challenges but also security risks for the region. The recent meeting of the EU-US Energy Council took on a renewed urgency as tensions over Ukraine’s border rise, highlighting Central and Eastern Europe’s dangerous dependence on Russian natural gas. This discussion will focus on how Europe and its allies can use energy investment to counteract malign influence and bolster their long-term security.
