France’s Digital Agenda
On January 1, France will assume the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union, with a wide-ranging agenda on digital sector regulation. As the EU aims for greater digital sovereignty, the Digital Markets Act and Digital Services Act – both slated to pass in 2022 - will be at the top of France’s legislative priorities. At the same time, the EU and US are working more closely on digital regulation, following the first meeting of the Trade and Technology Council (TTC) earlier this year. France’s vision for the next stage of Europe’s digital agenda will have long-term implications for transatlantic cooperation. What are the French government’s priorities as it assumes a leading role in digital policymaking, and what can we expect during its presidency?
