Sevgil Musaieva is the Chief Editor of Ukrainska Pravda, a leading independent media outlet that has become a symbol of journalistic resilience and integrity during wartime.
With the outbreak of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine in February 2022, she successfully mobilized her team and ensured the continued independent reporting to millions of Ukrainians and a global audience. On her initiative, an English-language version of Ukrainska Pravda was launched, quickly bringing Ukraine’s voice to the international community. Thanks to her strategic vision, the editorial team not only survived under wartime conditions but also became a powerful platform of resistance.
Under her leadership, journalists work in constant danger: on the front lines, in occupied regions, and in areas investigating war crimes, corruption, and human rights violations. Musaieva emphasizes a key principle of her work — ensuring that the subjects of journalistic materials do not become mere statistics but remain living stories that have a tangible impact on society.
Sevgil is the author of numerous high-profile reports, co-author of a book about Mustafa Dzhemilev, a six-time recipient of the Presszvanie Award for economic journalism, and a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University. In 2022, Time magazine included her in the list of the 100 most influential people in the world, recognizing her courageous and principled stance as a journalist and media leader during the war. Additionally, she was awarded the International Press Freedom Award by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), honoring her contributions to upholding journalistic standards and independent reporting during wartime.
