Ambassador Paul Jones (ret.) is a Distinguished Fellow at the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA).

A leading expert in geopolitics and international business, Ambassador Jones has held numerous senior executive leadership roles with global responsibilities. He was Vice President for International Government Relations at Raytheon Technologies, a global aerospace and defense company (2020-23), leading a team of 20, including five executives, that accomplished priority business objectives with top levels of government in 25 countries and Washington, DC.

With rare experience as a U.S. Ambassador in Europe and Asia, Jones served as U.S. Ambassador to Poland (2015-18), U.S. Ambassador to Malaysia (2010-13), and Charge d’Affaires of the U.S. Mission to Pakistan (2018-20). Senior Washington positions included Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs (2013-15) and Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan (2009-10). In addition to his ambassadorial appointments, he served three times as Deputy Chief of Mission -- at U.S. Embassy Manila, Philippines; US Embassy Skopje, North Macedonia; and U.S. Mission to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna, Austria – as well as in other positions in Moscow, Russia; Bogota, Colombia; and Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Jones is a member of the American Academy of Diplomacy. He was the first U.S. Ambassador to Malaysia to be conferred the honorary title of Dato’. He is the recipient of the Robert C. Frasure Memorial Award for Peace Building, the Presidential Meritorious Service Award, the Secretary of State’s Distinguished Honor Award, and several Superior Honor Awards. He received a B.A. in History from Cornell University, an M.A. in Public Administration from the University of Virginia, and an M.A. in National Security Strategy from the Naval War College.
