Kaja Karlson has been working as a governmental advisor in Estonia since 2018. She has been focusing on emerging security challenges in the transatlantic environment among other pressing security issues. Kaja’s portfolio includes European Union foreign and security policy and NATO defense policies. Prior to joining the Government Office of Estonia, Kaja was an advisor on NATO defense policy at the Ministry of Defense of Estonia and an advisor on foreign policy and international organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia. She holds a master's degree in European Politics and External Relations from the University of Amsterdam with prior academic experience at the Charles University in Prague, the University College London, and the University of Tartu.
