Brian Slattery is a Fellow with the Transatlantic Defense and Security Program at the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA).

Slattery supports efforts ranging from Congress’s role in European security affairs to NATO and EU defense policies. He is currently Director of Strategic Engagement at Metrea, a defense solutions firm that supports US national security priorities and those of allies and partners globally.

Slattery has a combination of executive and legislative branch experience working on Transatlantic security issues for the US government, as well as a unique understanding of the role of the defense industry in supporting NATO objectives.

Slattery has previously served as a professional staff member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, where he supported oversight of US European Command. He also served under the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for European and NATO Policy for over three years, where he supported US  policies for NATO partnerships, NATO-EU cooperation, US-EU defense cooperation, and NATO’s growing focus on responding to security challenges presented by China.

Prior to his government service, Brian spent 2012-17 at the Heritage Foundation's Center for National Defense, where he focused on US defense and foreign policy and managed the production of the annual Index of US Military Strength for its first three years.

Brian earned an undergraduate degree in International Affairs and a minor in Classical Humanities from Xavier University and a Master of Public Policy with a focus on national security from the George Mason University Schar School of Policy, Government, and International Affairs. Brian is a Maryland native, where he currently resides with his wife and two sons.
