The Road to the NATO Summit.
Event Overview
NATO is working to develop a strategy for the security and defense applications of artificial intelligence (AI) ahead of a June 14 summit. In an increasingly competitive world, this critical effort will ensure the United States and its closest allies can maintain and strengthen their strategic and technological edge. However, to achieve this, Allied leaders must coordinate on several policy challenges related to ethical principles for AI use, interoperability standards, data-sharing issues, investment, and industry engagement, among others.
Bringing together perspectives from both sides of the Atlantic, the discussion explores political and technical obstacles to AI adoption and offer concrete ideas for implementation at the Alliance level. Following the release of the U.S. National Security Commission on AI’s 2021 final report, the discussion will also focus on how the U.S. and other allies’ experiences with AI can provide important lessons to inform NATO’s efforts.
