Romania’s Security Leadership in South East Europe

Twenty-six years after the end of communism, Romania has emerged as a key U.S. ally and pivotal strategic player in Europe
Situated on the Eastern flank of the Euro-Atlantic community, the country’s Black Sea energy resources and its burgeoning investment climate underscore its centrality to Western security. In defense, energy, commerce and democratic reform, the future of Europe's southeastern frontier depends more than ever on a robust U.S.-Romanian alliance.

  *   What are the challenges facing this alliance in the era of Russian resurgence?

  *   What further policy developments does Romania need to implement to improve its security?

  *   How is the bilateral agenda, especially in security and energy, evolving to meet these challenges?

  *   How can America and Romania work together more effectively to ensure the continued success of the Euro-Atlantic agenda of stability and reform in this strategically important region?
